I graduated from The University of Utah in August 2017 where I majored in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism with an Community Recreation and Sports Management, through the College of Health. Below are a few samples of some of the work I completed while pursuing my degree along with explanations of why I felt these papers were relevant to share..
The above work is my coaching philosophy from February 2016 which I developed during my Intro to Coaching course. I found it relevant to post here as it relates directly to my internship and my future career as a coach.
One of my internships was spent as a recruiting assistant for The University of Utah football team, and therefore, the paper displayed above, shows some of my findings through interviews, research, and personal experience as to the trends in collegiate athletics.
This last project is a 5 day summer program that a cohort of three people, including myself, in one of my classes, created as a final project. This project shows my ability to be creative, organized, and knowledgable of all of the parts that need to be planned for a big event to take place and be successful.

Objectives:
Position: Assistant Football Coach
Goals and Objectives:
Goal #1:
By the end of my internship, I will know what it takes and be able to lead a High School football program as either an assistant coach or a head coach.
Objectives:
- I will shadow and observe my supervisor, the head coach, every day I am at my internship, to view the “behind the scenes” activities to know the inter-workings of the job.
- I will ask questions about things I do not understand or how my supervisor would approach certain situations, so that I am prepared for those possible scenarios when I become an assistant or head coach.
Goal #2:
By the end of the season, I will increase the pass defense efficiency compared to the previous year.
Objectives:
- As the defensive backs coach, I will teach proper fundamentals and techniques to the players to increase their efficiency on the field.
- I will teach the players how to read an offense, thus allowing them to anticipate upcoming plays better than they were able to last year.
The practice schedule above was completed at my internship with Skyline High School. It is a schedule I created for one of our defensive practices. In the document are position specific drills, depth charts, play calls, and other information that proved useful to have while out on the field. Creating this practice plan, and others similar to it for each practice, will help me teach the proper principles and techniques my players need to learn in order to be successful and improve their performance from the previous year.
As part of my responsibilities during my internship, I was in charge of planning and overseeing our "Little Eagles Camp", the youth camp for first graders through eighth graders that the High School puts on every year. This planning and overseeing helped me see what it takes to run a High School program, one of my goals. Although this one day camp was but a small portion of what a full program entails, I was able to see some of the inter-workings of establishing a successful program.
